Originally from Kansas, my Dad brought me up to Montana for summer fishing vacations all my life, camping all around the state on blue ribbon trout rivers. After graduating from college at Kansas State University with a BS in Biology in May of 1998, I showed up in Emigrant Montana in the Yellowstone Valley 5 days later to become a fishing guide. From there I shifted from the Yellowstone to the Big Hole valley and began guiding for one of the nation’s top fishing lodges, The Complete Fly Fisher. Living on the banks of the Big Hole in Wise River Montana, I guided the next five years under outfitter and jedi master David Decker, as well as an array of veteran guides to learn the art of casting and instructing fly fishing.
In 2004 I became a licensed Montana Outfitter, moved to Hamilton Montana, and launched Bitterroot River Guides. With instruction being paramount on our trips, we teach fly fishing as a whole: casting, mending, wading, reading water, recognizing insect hatches, leader construction, and many other facets making up the art of fly fishing, and have a ton of fun while we are at it.
My guide staff is dedicated, courteous, patient and professional: we are a tight knit team with decades of commercial experience and thousands of river miles under our belts. Masters of both a fly rod and raft, we safely navigate the rivers of Montana throughout the season. From big water in the spring until the trickles of fall, we search out wild trout on the fly. Thanks for fishing with us, and I hope we meet on a trout stream someday.
